Dance themes

The people who come to our dances are those that enjoy having a go at range of "modern" partner dances such as salsa, jive, modern jive, rock and roll, etc.  Each Friday night tends to have a bit of a theme according to the type of dancing we introduce at the start of the evening. But we are always open to requests and quite happy to play music that people bring along to dance to!

Music, dancing and free refreshments until 11:00 pm
You can also bring your own drinks and have a party!

Start off your Easter weekend by getting some exercise before the chocolate arrives. The Good Friday Dance is going to be mostly Modern Jive, Jive and Swing. The introductory session is going to have a swing feel to it but as always this is pitched at absolute begineers - no matter how many left feet they have.

October dance Friday 7/10/2011

posted 4 Oct 2011, 11:40 by Strictly Stanwick   [ updated 4 Oct 2011, 11:49 ]

The October First Friday dance will be a freestyle modern jive evening. There will be a short introductory lesson between 8:00 and 8:30 pm which will be suitable for complete beginners or people who have done some modern jive before but need a reminder of the basic moves. The music will be a mixture of different styles from classic swing to contemporary tracks.

Once again we will provide hot drinks, squash and water  as well as biscuits and snacks to help keep people's energy levels up. If you wish to party you can also bring along your own alcoholic drinks.

Swing Jive - 2/09/2011

posted 13 Aug 2011, 12:48 by Strictly Stanwick

The theme of the next "First Friday Dance" will be Swing Jive.

The dance will still be a freestyle event with music that can, on the whole, be danced to with modern jive. However we will demonstrate a few basic swing footsteps (triple steps) for people to incorporate into their dancing and introduce a few basic moves that can danced either as modern jive or with swing, lindy hop, boogie woogie or ballroom jive footwork. For those who are used to latin dancing then some of the music will also be suitable for cha cha cha (which of course also uses an "unswung" triple step).

As with all the Strictly Stanwick dances this is a social dance evening which will be pitched at complete beginners, people attending don't need to bring a partner as everyone is encouraged to dance with everyone else.

Once again we will provide hot drinks, squash and water (with hopefully some ice this time) as well as biscuits to help keep people's energy levels up. Tea and maybe cake at the end of the evening.
