Latin fever

posted 27 Feb 2012, 14:20 by Strictly Stanwick

February's dance had a latin theme to it and had two introductory lessons - one merengue and one salsa. It was amazing how quickly people picked up the new styles of dancing and had a go - we also spotted quite a bit of cha-cha-cha going on and even a bit of Tango. A great night!  Back to Jive next month but we'll try and keep everything in the mix!

New Year Dance 2012

posted 7 Jan 2012, 05:40 by Strictly Stanwick

The First Friday of 2012 was one of the most enjoyable dances to date. A great range of people ages and dance experience made for a wonderful night. First timers were swept off their feet and we even saw a bit of salsa, jive, quickstep, foxtrot, cha-cha-cha, tango and samba appearing from the more experienced during the evening.... something for everyone...

Sound proofing and air conditioning!

posted 1 Nov 2011, 07:02 by Strictly Stanwick   [ updated 2 Nov 2011, 12:06 ]

Stanwick Village Hall has how been upgraded with air conditioning, blinds for the windows and sound dampening boards to remove the echos from around the room. The result has to be one of the best venues around for music and dancing.

We're looking forward to the social dance this Friday! It has a Swing Jive theme and should suit dancers of all styles and abilities!

Latin Jive night a great success

posted 13 Aug 2011, 12:24 by Strictly Stanwick

We were a little apprehensive about mixing in some merengue and salsa into the modern jive from the previous week - we shouldn't have been!  Despite summer holidays, BBQs and other dance events happening on the same night we had a great turnout from Stanwick locals and people from a range of dance classes.

Andy Holt from Salsa Solamente gave a great introduction to salsa and in the earlier introduction class people soon picked up the latin feel of merengue and added it into their jive dancing.

Gearing up..... Another success was having the four huge fans in each corner of the dance floor, those who came to the previous dance will have certainly noticed the difference! We also are building up a collection of lights to provide a bit more atmosphere in the Village Hall.

The August First Friday Dance will be COOL!

posted 7 Jul 2011, 02:59 by Strictly Stanwick

To be accurate it will be breezy - we have got our hands on several rather huge dance fans to make sure that we can keep a good breeze blowing around the room on the 5th August. As a physics teacher I'll point out that in order for there to be a cooling effect then water has to evaporate - i.e. the more the men sweat (and women glisten) the cooler it will be!

July First Friday Dance

posted 3 Jul 2011, 10:40 by Strictly Stanwick

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the first of the Strictly Stanwick "First Friday" dances. We had over 40 people come to the dance. Amazingly we had an equal number of men and ladies and a real mixture of people from first timers to very experienced dancers. The next dance is on 5th August and will once again be a freestyle jive orientated event but with a latin theme. If you were unable to make the first event (which unfortunately clashed with the Stanwick Village Evening) then come along to this next dance to find out what it's all about!

Although it is unlikely that hall will have it's air conditioning installed by the 5th August we will this time make sure that there are plenty of cooling fans around the room for the next dances as the hall did get quite warm!

Village Evening

posted 9 Jun 2011, 09:37 by Strictly Stanwick   [ updated 22 Jun 2011, 08:04 ]

By coincidence the first Strictly Stanwick "First Friday" dance is taking place on the same evening as the Stanwick Village Evening held at the Stanwick Primary School . The Village Evening finishes at about 8:00 pm and the Strictly Stanwick dance doesn't start until 8:00 pm (introduction to modern jive) with the freestyle social dance starting at 8:30 pm. This should be a great way of finishing off the evening! Buy your drinks at the drink tent and bring them to the dance!
